Vietnam Tour

Pilot Breifing
Vietnam Tour of Duty

This tour of duty is dedicated to all those who served in Vietnam in the fight against Communism.
For information about the conflict see www.vietnam-war.info

This tour is not for beginners. There are times that you can fly transports and/or observation planes but most of the time you will be flying choppers's to outposts behind enemy lines.

This project was conceived by Richard Stjernéus. RE76 and has been made possible with the scenery from Al Simms

    Requirements
    • Scenery files with the LZ's and maps.
    • Huey's and/or Chinook helicopters. You can only land at the LZ's with a chopper.
    • Vietnam era transport (C-130) and a fighter plane. Some hops will be transport to airports and some may be observation or S&D.

You will be flying missions to the LZ's with only the maps to guide you. There was no navigational equipment on them in 1968 and there is none now either. You will have to do as the helicopter pilots did during the war - Fly VFR and find them with the maps, and dead reckoning.
The NDBs at the other locations may also be of some assistance. There is a sign on every LZ so that you will know which one that you have landed on.
The advantage that you have in Flight Sim is that you can "Go to Airport" and use the starting locations that you will find in the Scenery database under addon scenery and go directly to them when you wish to continue your missions.

Scenery packages needed for the Vietnam Tour of Duty
FS2002/FS2004 scenery--Chu Lai, Vietnam-1968 Americal Division HQ during the middle and later years of the Vietnam War. Includes 50 surrounding LZs and many objects are textured from actual photos taken by the author during his tour of duty in the area. A trip back in time for Veterans. By Al Simms
    Download - 19,599kb
FS2002/FS2004 scenery--Duc Pho, Vietnam-1968 Additional Vietnam Scenery. By Al Simms

Recommended - Any terrain mesh of 75m or better for the area
FS Global works fine as well as many others. The default mesh will show lower hills and many scenery objects floating in the air.
