GOLDEN
HAWAII for FS2004
This package will take you back to prewar Hawaii when it was a peaceful tropical paradise
where the rich played and lucky military personnel enjoyed their island duty! After coming
over on the PanAm Clippers, Inter-Island airways of Hawaii mainly handled air
transportation for the wealthy vacationers. Included in this package are a Sikorsky S43
amphibian in Inter-Island colors, an S43 in PanAm colors, two Kellet autogyros and three
Ford panel trucks to explore the local scenery! Also included is complete replacement
scenery that portrays the islands as they did in the mid to late 1930s! This scenery is
activated by a special program that allows you to choose between flying in either modern
or golden age Hawaii. You can play the role of Air Line Captain with your own flight crew
to fly the various scheduled and special flights for Inter-Island Airways or you can be
the star flying reporter for a Honolulu newspaper with your Kellet Autogyro! There are 19
exciting and challenging flights to get you started and you'll have hours of fun in your
new golden age flying career!
INSTALLATION:
Installation is a matter of applying the included installer to your main fs2004 folder!
1. Now using Windows Explorer go to the following folder: Scenery/Ocen. You will find a
file called golden_hawaii.exe. Double click on it and you will be provided a status report
as to which era is currently open and two buttons to choose the era you want to fly in.
Push the Golden Hawaii button!
NOTE! When you are in Golden Hawaii mode other island scenery in
FS2004 is disabled! Be sure to close fs2004 and return to the modern era when you
want to fly at other Ocean locations!
2. It is highly recommended that you right click on the
golden_hawaii.exe and "Send To the Desktop" as a shortcut so you can then very
easily choose your favorite Hawaiian era before booting up fs2004!
PLEASE READ THE REST OF THIS DOCUMENT BEFORE BOOTING UP SO YOU CAN PROPERLY ENJOY GOLDEN
HAWAII!!
PLEASE!!!! PRETTY PLEASE..;o))
After reading the rest of this document boot up and make sure your settings are as
follows:
AUTOGEN: Recommend maximum but highest you can live with!
DYNAMIC SCENERY: Enabled, Maximum setting!
AI TRAFFIC: There is commercial, period GA and miltary AI traffic included. We run at 100%
which fills the skies but if you want to cut back you can reduce it to 49% which takes out
the military fighters. Reducing to 34% removes the Navy blimp. Reducing below 25% removes
it all. You should run traffic as high as your machine will allow as it really adds to the
sim. The radio chatter and visual effects make the sim come alive. NOTE: Since there is
Trans Pacific default commercial traffic you might see an occasional 747 fly over head!
NOTE: It is recommended that you start with the flight "New Crew Orientation" to
become familiar with the S43!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AIRCRAFT OPERATION:
Please read the Checklists provided where appropriate before operating each aircraft to
fully enjoy the included features!
If you desire, the virtual cockpit pan rate can be adjusted in your main fs9.cfg file from
the default 400 to 900 which allows much faster more realistic panning using the hat
switch. These aircraft have been designed so that full 100% zoom should be used in the
Virtual Cockpit. This improves frame rates and gives a nicer view of the world below. I
would highly recommend getting the great Active Camera program and setting head latency at
1.0 ! It has literally transformed our flightsimming and we couldn't fly with out it
now!!!!!
Vitual Cockpit Operation: The virtual cockpit has been designed so that most functions can
be accessed with the mouse It helps to have "tooltips" operational to become
familiar with their use. Also printing out this text as a reference will make things
easier. Most switches are fully clickable as well as the throttles, mixture levers etc.
In addition "Hot Spots" have been assigned to perform certain functions:
Clicking on the "Hawaii Map" brings up the Map Window.
Clicking on the left side of the radio toggles the ATC Window.
Clicking on the right seat brings up the crew.
Clicking on the parking brake will engage or disengage it.
Clicking on the flaps lever will extend or retract the flaps.
Clicking on the memo will bring up your flight crew scheduled flights.
Clicking on your pocket watch opens it.
Clicking on the gear lights will extend or retract the gear.
Clicking on the left side of the curtain will open it giving you access to the AM radio/cd
player and also the virtual passenger cabin if you have Active Camera installed.
Aircraft Gauges: The included aircraft use some of the neat
default period aircraft gauges from the Douglas DC3, Ford Trimotor and deHavilland Comet.
If you experience "missing" gauges in your 2d and virtual cockpit make sure you
have not moved those aircraft from their correct default locations. Moving or restoring
them back to their original correct default locations will install your S43 gauges.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AM Radio/CD Player Operation

The AM Radio radio comes preloaded with several period AM radio broadcasts but is shipped
unactivated because some OS/card combinations have problems. To activate it, using Windows
Explorer go to the Aircraft/S43/panel folder and using notepad open the panel.cfg file.
Toward the bottom you will find this block:
[Vcockpit09]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=256,256
visible=0
pixel_size=256,256s
texture=$pan9
gauge00=switch02d!switch, 0,128,128,128
gauge01=s43custom!curtain, 128,128,128,128
gauge02=xradiocd4!radiocd, 128,0,128,128
gauge03=F4F4_Wildcat!Flaps-Lever,0,0,128,128
DELETE the x from the gauge02= line and the AM Radio/CD player will become operational.
ADD the x back if you experience slow down or other difficulties!
DIFFERENT INSTALLATION LOCATIONS might cause you to get
"File Not Found or File Nor Assigned" tooltip messages! If so then first go to
Window Mode to make file assignments. Right Click on a preset button and a selection
screen will appear where you can brouse to your main fs2004 sound file. Select one of the
"Songxx.wmv" files and assign it. Repeat for the other buttons and you will be
operational. You can now return to full screen mode to continue flying.
CABIN CALLS: There are 4 cabin call switches on the overhead speaker. They can be
customized by replacing them with your own recorded voice messages which are placed in the
main sound folder. There is an appropriate song on the left switch that can also be
customized if desired.
PLEASE use the Aircraft/Kneeboard/ Checklist and Reference HTMLs for specifications and a
history of each aircraft!. Each item can be checked off by clicking the appropriate boxes.
